The #StayOnSide initiative, designed to inspire, empower, and engage young people through sport, marked a significant milestone as girls from local schools came together to compete, support each other, and showcase the incredible talent that exists in our community. The event was not only a sporting success but a powerful statement about inclusivity, opportunity, and positive youth engagement.
A huge congratulations goes to Ysgol Acrefair, who made history as the first winners of this groundbreaking tournament. Their teamwork, passion, and sportsmanship were second to none.
Chairman of Cefn Community Council, Mr. Phil Vaughan, proudly presented the winning trophy and shared his heartfelt thoughts on the day:
“It was an absolute honour to present the trophy and witness history being made in our community. This competition isn’t just about sport—it’s about giving our young girls the chance to shine, to grow in confidence, and to feel part of something bigger. I’m immensely proud of everyone who took part and all those who made it happen.”
Community Development Officer Andrew Ruscoe, expressed his pride in seeing the vision come to life:
“This has been a dream in the making—to create a safe, inspiring space for girls to play, learn, and grow through futsal. Today was about more than a competition; it was about empowerment, teamwork, and rewriting what’s possible for young people in Wrexham. I’m incredibly proud of every school that took part and grateful to all the partners who believed in the vision especially PCSO Lara Shiers who was an incredible driving force behind the project.”
Special thanks go to all participating schools, dedicated staff, volunteers, and especially to the young players who gave their all on the court. The event has set the stage for future opportunities, with hopes of making the Girls’ Futsal Tournament an annual highlight in the Cefn District calendar.
Together, we’ve not only made history—we’ve built a platform for the future.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Vaughan for his continued dedication and commitment to our community.

This event marked the official launch of the newly formed #StayOnSide Cefn Litter Pickers, bringing together passionate local residents, councillors, and community partners to improve our shared spaces. The group focused their efforts on Llangollen Road in Acrefair, an area in need of attention and care.
Over the course of the session, volunteers collected:
This not only made a visible difference to the area, but also sent a strong message about community pride and ownership.
Cefn Community Council would like to extend sincere thanks to all those who took part in the litter pick:
Their dedication and energy set the tone for what we hope will be a year filled with positive environmental action.
Chairman Mr. Phil Vaughan shared his thoughts on the day:
“Seeing young people like Jacob step up and take pride in their community fills me with hope and pride. Today we didn’t just pick litter – we picked up the spirit of Cefn. This is what our community is all about – unity, action, and pride in where we live. I encourage everyone to get involved – the difference we can make together is remarkable.”
Cefn Community Council will be holding monthly litter picks throughout 2025, and we invite all residents to take part. These events are open to everyone, and all volunteers are welcome—whether you’re a regular helper or attending for the first time.
Keep an eye on our website and social media for upcoming dates and locations. Together, we can continue to make Cefn a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming place for everyone.

Today, Jacqueline was out in Plas Madoc, cleaning the hedge along the top end of Hampden Way and tackling litter in Dinas and Alwen. Her hard work resulted in six full bags of rubbish collected, plus the carcass of a fitted oven left by the litter bin at the Hampden Way bus stop!
Her dedication to making our community a cleaner and safer place is truly inspiring! If you’d like to get involved and make a difference, we’d love to have you on board.

To honour this special occasion, Cefn Community Council Chairman, Mr. Phil Vaughan, personally visited the couple to offer his heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the community. As a token of celebration, he presented them with a beautiful bouquet from Maypole Florist, a symbol of the strength and beauty of their six decades together.
Reflecting on their incredible achievement, Chairman Vaughan shared his admiration:
“Sixty years of marriage is not just a milestone—it is a masterpiece. It is a testament to love’s ability to endure, to grow, and to inspire all of us. In a world that changes so quickly, Mr. & Mrs. Harrison stand as a shining example of devotion, proving that true love isn’t just a story in books—it’s real, and it flourishes right here in our community.
