Cefn Community Council’s first monthly litter pick of 2025 got off to an inspiring start, thanks to the leadership of nine-year-old Jacob Smith from Ysgol Rhosymedre.

This event marked the official launch of the newly formed #StayOnSide Cefn Litter Pickers, bringing together passionate local residents, councillors, and community partners to improve our shared spaces. The group focused their efforts on Llangollen Road in Acrefair, an area in need of attention and care.

Community Action in Motion

Over the course of the session, volunteers collected:

  • More than 11 bags of general litter
  • Fly-tipped waste
  • Car wheel trims
  • Copper cabling

This not only made a visible difference to the area, but also sent a strong message about community pride and ownership.

A Strong Team Effort

Cefn Community Council would like to extend sincere thanks to all those who took part in the litter pick:

  • Jacob Smith (Ysgol Rhosymedre)
  • Barbara Lloyd (Cefn Mawr Museum)
  • Mr. Phil Vaughan (Chairman, Cefn Community Council)
  • Lucy Gregory (#StayOnSide Cefn Litter Pickers)
  • Andrew Ruscoe (Community Development Officer)
  • Councillor Paul Blackwell

Their dedication and energy set the tone for what we hope will be a year filled with positive environmental action.

Chairman’s Message

Chairman Mr. Phil Vaughan shared his thoughts on the day:

“Seeing young people like Jacob step up and take pride in their community fills me with hope and pride. Today we didn’t just pick litter – we picked up the spirit of Cefn. This is what our community is all about – unity, action, and pride in where we live. I encourage everyone to get involved – the difference we can make together is remarkable.”

Get Involved

Cefn Community Council will be holding monthly litter picks throughout 2025, and we invite all residents to take part. These events are open to everyone, and all volunteers are welcome—whether you’re a regular helper or attending for the first time.
