What an absolutely fantastic day at the Derek Wright Annual Football Competition, proudly organised by Cefn Community Council in collaboration with Active Wrexham and Plas Madoc Leisure Centre.

πŸ™Œ This year’s tournament was truly one of the most exciting, competitive and closely fought competitions we have ever seen. Every school gave it their all, showing incredible determination, teamwork, passion and sportsmanship from start to finish.

πŸ₯‡ A huge congratulations to Ysgol Pentre, who were crowned the Ken Bathers Memorial Trophy Winners.

πŸ₯ˆ A massive well done also to Ysgol Cefn Mawr, who finished as runners-up after a tremendous performance in what can only be described as the closest tournament we have ever witnessed.

πŸ‘ We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the schools that took part this year. Your effort, attitude and enthusiasm made the day such a brilliant success, and you should all be very proud of yourselves.

🀝 A very special thank you also goes to our partners and everyone who helped make the day possible, especially Councillors Derek Wright and Gaynor Wright for representing the Council, our wonderful Clerk Trina Nicholls-Smith, our Community Agent Donna Thornley, our Community Development Officer Andrew Ruscoe, who refereed an incredible 16 matches, and Liam Jones from Active Wrexham.

πŸ—£οΈ Cefn East Councillor and Vice Chairman Derek Wright said:

β€œI have been involved in this competition for many years, and I can honestly say this was the closest tournament we have ever witnessed. The standard from every school was outstanding, and the determination, commitment and sportsmanship on show today made me incredibly proud. These young people gave everything for their schools, and every single one of them should hold their heads high. It was a brilliant advert for school football and for our community.”

πŸ’™βš½ Days like this show exactly what can be achieved when schools, partners and the community come together to support our young people.

πŸŽ‰ Well done to everyone involved β€” you were all absolutely brilliant.

A fantastic effort today in Newbridge at our Monthly Community Litter Pick.

Together, the team collected 9 bags of litter, as well as tubs of paint, an old children’s play tunnel, and large numbers of discarded vapes from the streets. Every bag filled and every item removed helps make our community cleaner, safer, and something we can all be proud of.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, especially:

Councillor Chairman Phil Vaughan

Barbara Lloyd – Cefn Mawr and District Museum’s finest

David Roden – Tesco’s amazing Community Champion

Jamie Evans – Tesco Team Manager

Jacqueline Palmer – the best litter picker in Wales, and possibly the UK, from the #StayOnSide Cefn Litter Pickers

Andrew Ruscoe – Community Development Officer

Your support, hard work, and community spirit are greatly appreciated.

A big thank you to all involved, and very well done to everyone who helped make a real difference today.

THE WAR ON DOG POO!

πŸ‘ Huge thanks to Christine Redmond for supporting the #StayOnSide Project by taking our Ysgol Acrefair -designed dog fouling posters into Newbridge to help tackle the recent issues being experienced.

πŸ’› This is community spirit in action.

πŸ§’ The message has come from local young people.

🏘️ The action is being led by local residents.

πŸ’ͺ And together, we can make a real difference.

⚠️ Dog mess is not just unpleasant β€” it can spread harmful bacteria and parasites, create health risks for children and other animals, and spoil the places we all share.

βœ… Bag it

βœ… Bin it

βœ… Respect your community

πŸ“£ Let’s empower each other to take pride in our streets, protect public spaces, and send a clear message that dog fouling is not acceptable.

πŸ’› Thank you Christine.

πŸ’› Thank you Ysgol Acrefair.

πŸ’› Thank you to everyone backing the campaign.

πŸ”₯ Let’s work together and win the war on dog poo!
