Road Closure Details

Location: High Street and Well Street, Rhosymedre
Dates: 22 April 2026 to 28 May 2026

Wrexham Council has advised that Wales & West Utilities will be carrying out essential works to:

replace 197 metres of old metallic gas mains
install 197 metres of new plastic mains
renew and transfer associated service pipes to nearby properties

Red – extent of the works and full road closure
Pink – access only / soft closure points
Blue – diversion routes
Diversion Route

The signed diversion route for vehicles affected by the closure will be via:

B5605 Park Road → A539 Llangollen Road → King Street → Crane Street → Well Street

Access Arrangements
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works
The closure is expected to last for 5 weeks, or until the works are completed if earlier
The legal order allows for a maximum duration of 18 months, although the works are not expected to last that long

Every Community Council in Wrexham is being awarded £44,117.64 to spend on improving our villages. This is the ‘Pride in Place’ Impact Fund, a UK Government initiative through which money is being given to every local authority in Wales.

Some authorities are keeping the money to spend themselves, but Wrexham County Borough Council has decided to give the money directly to communities via the Community Councils, so that local people can help decide what is needed most.

We cannot simply spend the money on anything we want. There is a set of criteria which must be followed when considering ideas and projects. The funding cannot be used for salaries, potholes, or the ongoing upkeep of existing things.

Community Councils are being asked to gather ideas and suggestions from local residents and use the funding to make improvements that have come directly from the community. The money can be used on one project or across several different improvements — it is up to each community to decide.

An important update has just been announced by Wrexham County Borough Council — bus services are set to return to Newbridge, Pentre, and Whitehurst from Sunday, 16th November 2025! 🎉

After years of diversions caused by road closures following Storm Christoph in 2021, the long-awaited reinstatement of services 2 & 2A between Wrexham and Oswestry is finally happening.

Councillor David A. Bithell confirmed the news, praising the positive collaboration between Wrexham Council, Arriva North West & Wales, and the Traffic Commissioner’s Office to bring services back earlier than expected.

This is a major step forward for local residents who’ve been calling for better transport links through the area.

A talented pupil from Ysgol Acrefair has seen her artwork chosen to lead the fight against dog fouling across Cefn’s communities.

Poppy’s powerful Dog Fouling awareness poster has been selected by the Cefn Community Council’s Development Committee, ratified by Full Council, and will now be displayed at all 12 dedicated Dog Fouling stations across Cefn, Acrefair, Cefn Mawr, Plas Madoc, Newbridge and Rhosymedre.

The poster, unveiled by Chairman Councillor Phil Vaughan, was part of Ysgol Acrefair’s involvement in the #StayOnSide Community Project.

Speaking after her win, Poppy said:

“I was in disbelief that my poster was chosen over the other brilliant ones in my classroom. I’m really proud that my work will be seen by so many people in our community.”

Chairman Phil Vaughan praised the competition and its impact on young people, adding:

“This project shows how our schools and communities can work hand in hand. Poppy’s poster will leave a legacy across our villages, reminding everyone that small actions like picking up after your dog make a big difference. She should be very proud.”

Andrew Ruscoe, Community Development Officer and creator of the #StayOnSide programme, reflected on the project’s growth over the past decade:

“In nine years of delivering #StayOnSide, it has gone from strength to strength. Never in my life did I imagine it would be rolled out in other councils such as Llanelli Town Council, or leave a lasting mark here with dog fouling posters carbon-written next to our stations. It is more than an honour. This project brings pride to the community, and thanks to young people like Poppy, her family will now have miles of memories every time they walk past these stations with pride.”

The initiative not only tackles dog fouling but also encourages local pride, community responsibility, and positive engagement between schools, young people, and the council.
