🎄 Cefn Community Council Triumphs Over Storm Darragh!

What a magical evening we had at the George Edwards Hall Christmas Fair!

Despite the blustery winds and pouring rain brought by Storm Darragh, the festive spirit shone brighter than ever. The George Edwards Hall was a hive of activity, filled with laughter, joy, and holiday cheer, thanks to the incredible community that makes Cefn such a special place.

The event featured a variety of wonderful stalls, festive goodies, and a delicious selection of cakes from MoonBakes, who joined us at the last minute—thank you for stepping in and saving the day! The highlight of the evening was the outstanding performance by the children of Ysgol Cefn Mawr. Their beautiful singing echoed beyond the hall, lighting up the streets and warming everyone’s hearts.

Santa himself made a surprise appearance, spreading early Christmas joy with gifts for the little ones, much to their delight!

A massive thank you goes out to our dedicated Councillors, who supported this event from start to finish, and to our phenomenal Clerk, Trina Nicholls-Smith, whose meticulous organisation and tireless efforts ensured everything ran smoothly.

Mr. Phil Vaughan, Chair of Cefn Community Council, shared his thoughts:
“Tonight was a true testament to the strength and spirit of our community. Storm Darragh may have brought the rain, but it couldn’t dampen the warmth and togetherness inside the George Edwards Hall. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a resounding success.”

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us, braved the weather, and helped make this Christmas Fair a huge success. Cefn Community truly showed that no storm could dampen the festive spirit of our community!

Wishing you all a joyful and festive season ahead,
Cefn Community Council

Over 50s Christmas Party Brings Festive Cheer to George Edwards Hall

Over 50s Christmas Party Brings Festive Cheer to George Edwards Hall

The holiday spirit came alive at the George Edwards Hall on [insert date] as over 40 residents gathered for the annual Over 50s Christmas Party. Hosted by Cefn Community Council, the celebration was filled with laughter, festive cheer, and a strong sense of community.

The event kicked off with a beautiful performance by the Raise the Roof Choir, whose harmonies set the perfect festive tone. Guests then enjoyed a delicious turkey bap with stuffing and a selection of homemade cakes, generously prepared by Kathy Eyre, Councillor Helen Brimfield, and the Thursday Warm Spaces crew.

Community Agent and event organiser Donna Thornley shared her joy at the turnout, saying, “We’re thrilled to see so many people enjoying the event. It’s all about bringing people together, and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

A True Community Effort

The success of the day was made possible through the contributions of many local businesses and individuals. David Roden from Tesco generously donated ingredients and assisted with food preparations. Minty from RDS Ruabon donated raffle prizes, while Plas Madoc Leisure Centre contributed a family swim pass for the raffle.

Food service was handled by Councillor Sonia T. Benbow-Jones, Becky, and Clerk Trina Nicholl-Smith, with additional help from Andrew Ruscoe, ensuring every guest felt cared for.

Phil Vaughan, Chairman of Cefn Community Council, praised the collective effort, saying, “Events like this show what makes our community special. Everyone came together to create a memorable day.”

Fundraising for Future Community Initiatives

The event also featured a lively raffle, hosted by Mr. Vaughan and his partner Barbara Lloyd, raising important funds for future community projects.

As the day came to an end, attendees expressed their gratitude to Donna Thornley for her dedication in organising the event. “It’s moments like these that remind us of how connected we are,” Donna reflected, highlighting the strength and warmth of the local community.

On behalf of Cefn Community Council, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and look forward to more community celebrations in the year ahead!

Working Together for a Greener Cefn

Today, our community took another meaningful step towards a sustainable future as we continued our tree-planting efforts at Plaskynaston Playing Fields. Partnering with Paul Moss from Derwen College Oswestry, we planted fruit trees, complete with protective guards, to enhance our local environment.

These trees will do more than beautify our green spaces—they’ll improve air quality, create habitats for wildlife, and leave a legacy that benefits future generations. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to environmental stewardship and creating a greener, healthier Cefn.

A special thank you goes to Tesco’s David Roden for stepping in to support today’s session, as well as our Community Development Officer, Andy Ruscoe, for his continued dedication to this vital work. Your combined efforts are making a real difference!

Tree planting is a simple yet impactful way to address climate challenges while fostering community spirit. By working together, we’re building a stronger, more sustainable Cefn that will thrive for years to come.

A Heart Warming Act of Kindness During Challenging Weather

In the face of yesterday’s stormy weather, our community came together in a truly inspiring way. Led by our dedicated Community Agent, Donna Elizabeth Thornley, and Kristyna Morrison, Chair of the Cefn, Rhosymedre & Newbridge Community Association, an incredible effort ensured that no one in our community felt forgotten or isolated.

The CRNCA Over 50’s Luncheon Club prepared hot, nutritious meals with care and compassion, which were personally delivered to local residents. For those who might otherwise have been unable to attend due to the adverse conditions, this thoughtful gesture brought comfort, connection, and a reminder of the strong bonds that unite us.

This initiative highlights the power of kindness and the enduring spirit of community. When we look out for one another, we create a sense of belonging and strength that shines even in the darkest moments.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making this possible. Your generosity and commitment are what make our community so special. Together, we prove that no one is ever truly alone.
